Why is Tooth Extraction Necessary?

Why is Tooth Extraction Necessary?

Why is Tooth Extraction Necessary?

If there is irreversible tooth decay or a cyst, tumor or condition in the tooth area, tooth extraction is recommended. Wisdom tooth extraction may become necessary as a person grows. Wisdom teeth often remain embedded in the jawbone or are not suitable for them to remain in the mouth.

The process of planning a tooth extraction usually starts with a dental x-ray to evaluate the relevant areas and the operation ends with the extraction of the teeth.

Risk of Bleeding After Tooth Extraction

Slight bleeding in the form of leakage may occur after tooth extraction. If bleeding exceeds normal levels, the patient should consult a physician without delay.

Things to Pay Attention

  • The area from which the tooth is extracted should be kept clean. After eating, teeth should be brushed with a soft toothbrush.
  • After tooth extraction, gargling with warm salt water can be beneficial
  • Consuming hot foods after tooth extraction may accelerate bleeding in the area where the extracted tooth is located.
  • Smoking after tooth extraction is not recommended as it may cause infection.
  • After tooth extraction, that area should be cared well for at least twenty-four hours.
  • If there is swelling and pain after tooth extraction, the patient should definitely consult a physician.

Eating After Tooth Extraction

Oral surgeons use anesthetic during tooth extraction. It's crucial not to consume hot food or drinks while your mouth is still numb after the procedure, as you may inadvertently bite your tongue, cheek, or lips. Therefore, it's recommended to avoid foods that require chewing until the numbness subsides.

Ideally, you should wait at least 2 or 3 hours after the extraction procedure. This delay allows the sensitivity in the area where the tooth was extracted to decrease, reducing the likelihood of complications. However, the exact time frame may vary depending on the nature of the dental problem and stages of treatment.

What you should eat after tooth extraction largely depends on how the surgery went and your mouth's reaction to the procedure. Warm or cold soup is a suitable food option post-extraction. Ensure the soup is as smooth as possible before eating.
